Day Eight
Today was a very interesting from the Global Perspective. First, we spoke with Hannah, a teacher from India. Hannah discussed with us the typical day in her classroom. She indicated that she has a class of 41, and has 28 periods per month. This was shocking!!! Hannah also gave us info about the India culture, and then this afternoon Dr. Huang gave a similar discussion as she explained the classroom setting and expectations of China.
Dr. Huang discussed Understanding by Design (backward design) which is simply beginning with the end in mind. How I would share this with my colleagues would be during our weekly PLC's when we discuss lesson planning. This would be the appropriate time especially at the beginning of the year. If we discussed what the end goal is, we could do a possible calendar for the entire year and co-plan to think of the desired outcomes for the student for the entire year. The plan does not have to be limited to weekly lesson planning.
Finally, the idea that I would used in my classroom from today's discussion would be the scratch off cards. The fact that the student would get immediate feedback as well as it would decrease the amount of grading that I would have to do. The immediate feedback would also give me an idea of concepts that need to be retaught before moving onto the next subject.
