.... We've come to the end of the road. Today is the last day for the regular session.  We spent the day doing our presentations and awards.  Can't wait until we return on September 30. Have a great new school year!!!

Day Ninteen

We are wrapping up.  GAETI 2017 is almost at an end. Today was fulled with completing all our projects.  We started the morning off by presenting our Art Projects.  Then the rest of day we worked on our Weebly Pages and Lesson Plans. I am finally finished with everything.

Day Eighteen

Today began with a synopsis of how the rest of the week would go, and then we began working on setting up our OWN business.  Our team decided to develop an Afterschool Tutoring program named Full Circle Learning. After lunch, Dr. Straughter came in to discuss how we as educator should take care of ourselves.  We took an assessment on our overall wellness.  It determined that my compassion satisfaction is high and that my burnout and secondary trauma level were low. We ended the day with a global perspective talk with a native of Brazil.

Day Seventeen

We began the morning learning how to use Infographics.  The first site that we visited was piktochart.com.  Here's what I came up with using the information provided by Dr. Lee Piktochart At the end of the day, we went to the Giles computer lab and learn how to create a Prezi slideshow.  Due to technical difficulties, Ms. Agnew, indicated that she would upload a tutorial video. We also worked with Adobe Spark again but this time we used video. Here's a look at what I did.

Day Sixteen

Today began with a presentation by Stephanie Agnew, from the library. Ms. Agnew gave some insightful information on how to use iPads in the classroom. Some of the apps that she mentioned were: Video Science Pocket Body Lite Pocket Universe NASA Visualization Exploration Project Noah Dr. Lee then taught us how to create a story (single webpage) using Spark.  Here's my story: My Birthplace Next, we learned how to create newspaper, see the following sample GAETI 2017 Science News

Day Fifteen

Today was an interesting, it began with the Assistant Secretary of State discussing with us how to form a business.  Jeremy explained to us how to use the state website  to find trends when deciding to open a business.  The state website is sos.ms.gov. We then worked on our art projects and Weebly websites for the rest of the day.

Day Fourteen

Today began with a presentation by Ms. Fulton on technology.  We learned about Thinkology and how to stream a YouTube video from our classroom and post to our websites.  We also learned how to hyperlink a Google Doc (HyperDocs). We completed our Flat Stanley presentations.  Here's a sneak peak: We ended the day learning how to brand ourselves, and to come up with our own marketing plan.  Tomorrow we will actually get to put this into place.

Day Thirteen

We began the morning by learning about Adobe Spark. Next, Dr. B gave a tutorial on Camstasia.  Here we learned how to create videos in preparation for our FlatStanley videos on tomorrow. Unfornately, I was not able to load our progress as software was not on the lab we were in at the end of the day.  I will be sure to upload tomorrow. Finally, Dr. Lee gave us a crash course in Canvas. He explained to us how to set up our own classroom and we worked our way down the navigation menu. Day Ten

Another week is in the books.  We had a very interesting day.  We began the day learning how to cut out our art projects, and let the games begin.  First, Dr. B, taught us how to create our own game boards using Word and Excel. Then, Mr. Justin came in and showed us how to use formative assessment with gamification. Finally, we visited the T.K. Martin centered and learned how technology is used for people disabilities especially communication. Useful applications: Schoology Socrative Neaprod

Day Nine

Planning, Planning, and More Planning.   Teachers are always planning. We continued our lesson about Understanding by Design. After completing the lesson, we were tasked with creating a sample lesson plan of our own based on our subject area. Beverlee and I created a lesson plan on how to understand Word Processing Skills.  We discovered that our essential question was related to our desired results.  I learned that my ICT lesson plans have been way off track, and I will be better prepared for the upcoming school year.  Helpful Websites bubbl.us - Brainstorming tool WorditOut.com - word clouds www.timetoast.com - timeline

Day Eight

Today was a very interesting from the Global Perspective.  First, we spoke with Hannah, a teacher from India. Hannah discussed with us the typical day in her classroom.  She indicated that she has a class of 41, and has 28 periods per month.  This was shocking!!! Hannah also gave us info about the India culture, and then this afternoon Dr. Huang gave a similar discussion as she explained the classroom setting and expectations of China.   Dr. Huang discussed Understanding by Design (backward design) which is simply beginning with the end in mind.  How I would share this with my colleagues would be during our weekly PLC's when we discuss lesson planning.  This would be the appropriate time especially at the beginning of the year.  If we discussed what the end goal is, we could do a possible calendar for the entire year and co-plan to think of the desired outcomes for the student for the entire year. The plan does not have to be limited to weekly lesson planning. Finally, the i

Day Seven

Today began with us creating a geological timeline.  I thought this was rather interesting to see how much of Earth's history has just been developed in the last 65 million years, and that the history from 65 million years ago to 4,600,000,000 billion years is so sparse.  I believe that can be incorporated in the Science classroom when we do the history of the atom as well as the cell. Then we began discussing the weather, and then actually creating our own weather PowerPoint.  I enjoyed this; however, I think that we did it in reverse order. If had created our own PPT prior to yesterday's visit we could have presented our own weather report while in the green room. After lunch, we worked on our Art Projects.  We laid down the foundation pieces by doing the watercolors.  We also printed our images in preparation for drawing and cutting out the template on tomorrow. Finally, we had a presentation by Nick about Native Americans, and how they have been portrayed in history.

Day Six

Today began with us doing a Scavenger Hunt at the Dunn Seiler Museum, and then we visited the Broadcast Meteorology green room.  We got to see what meteorologist actually in order for us, the viewer, to see the weather report on the news.  When then had a guest speaker, Bryce Touchstone. Mr. Touchstone discussed with us the difference in teaching from a global perspective. After lunch, we began working on our art project. We ended the day working on games and simulations that we could use in the classroom. We had to tell how we would use these games/simulations in the classroom by writing a lesson plan. For my lesson plan, I chose the Periodic Table where the students would have identify the different groups of the periodic table.

Day Five

Everyday it gets gooder and gooder....... Today started off by learning to create a website.  I thought this is something that I would never be able to do especially without pulling out all my hair.  We learned how to create a website through Weebly.  I think this would be a great capstone project for my students.  The students would create a page for each of the units that are taught in ICT, and that way I would be able to determine what he or she learned this year without actually having to give a final exam.  Then we discussed, 1:1 initiatives.  I was extremely excited to learn more about them, and actually drafting a letter was ideal.  I can now present this letter along with some additional research to the superintendent with hopes of establishing a 1:1 initiative in our district. Lastly, Dr. B gave us some great tips on designing our websites and showing us the ABC's R US to a great website.

Day Four

Today we visited  the Lignite Mining Company in Ackerman, MS.  This was a very interesting trip, and I learned a lot.  My original impression of mining is much like the cartoon version of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.  Mining to me was going underground and digging for resources.  Today, I learned quite the contrary.  All of the mining is done above ground, and the land that is used is reclaimed back to its original form.  However, the land was when the mining begins is how it will be restored.  We actually got to touch some lignite before it becomes coal, and then again when it actually forms.  Here are a few pics from the trip: Helpful website (resources): http://www.digintomining.com/sites/digintomining.com/files/content-files/DIMActivity_MinimalistMining.pdf

Day Three

What an interesting day!! We started the day off doing a Cookie Mining Activity in preparation of our field trip to the coal mine on tomorrow.   We had to mine for chocolate chip cookies while being mindful of cost as the whole purpose of mining is for PROFIT.    From there we went to PowerPoint on STEROIDS.  I will never use PowerPoint the same way again.  If you have never used the Outline view in PowerPoint hit me up, and I will be glad to explain.  It has changed my whole perception of PowerPoint. After lunch, the technology keep on coming.  We used Google Maps and Google Earth. See some of the places we visited below. https://drive.google.com/open?id=1iqGaDucKpncUQOx867jP11Hp7FA&usp=sharing We ended the day by doing a reading activity that I can't wait to share with the ELA teachers at my school.  The activity can be incorporated into all subjects.  It involved reading an article, then picking out a phrase that you thought was important and then working with a

Day Two

Today, was a very interesting and jammed packed day.  We starting the morning off learning about Geography, and how to integrate maps into our regular classroom lessons.  From there time was spent learning how to use Excel who knew we would later have to use this in class.   After lunch, we had to come up with a hypothesis, and draw a conclusion.  We created charts using Excel to display the data that we gained during our experiment. We also had a guest speaker, Michael Murphy, to come in and talk about the history of the Civil Rights Movement - the untold story.  He provided us with a website that provides us with lesson plan ideas.  We concluded with analyzing political cartoons, and received a great resource here as well. Day One

Before What an eventful day one!!!! GAETI 2017 is just like USPS whether rain, sleet, or hail -- they deliver. Although, the rain prevented some of our outside activities, we persevered.  The morning started out with introductions of both faculty and GAETI 2017 participants.  I found myself being in a crossroads as I teach two subjects, and trying to equally obtain information about both subject areas.  The afternoon was filled with several different aspects.  I was introduced to two new programs. 1) I was introduced to MAGNOLIA, which is a database search engine.  We were taught how to use MAGNOLIA in the classroom, and even how different lesson plans are available through the site. MAGNOLIA is a state funded program, and users may gain access through their local public library. 2) BLOG was the next program that I was introduced to.  I have never used the program before and found it quite interesting.  We are going to see where this leads.  I think that this would be a great tool
